Max drove a Super GT car at Fuji Speedway in March, in heavy rain. Red Bull set him a challenge: get behind the wheel of a Nissan Z NISMO GT500 for the first time and beat the lap time of Atsushi Miyake, a Kondo Racing regular and winner of the Fuji 3 Hours in 2024.
Verstappen had never driven a Super GT car or raced at Fuji before.
He had a single installation lap to get a feel for the car and the conditions, then went out for his first flying lap and finished within a tenth of Miyake's benchmark.
– It was getting used to the car, how you go on throttle and braking. The steering is very different and feeling the grip of the tyres. You can't go straight over the rivers because the corners don't let you do that. It was a really cool experience. Hopefully next time it is dry.
The second lap came in at 1:42.290, comfortably under Miyake's 1:44.075.

## Why has Max been driving so many GT cars lately?
Next weekend is his debut at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. He races for Verstappen Racing in a Mercedes-AMG GT3 alongside Dani Juncadella, Jules Gounon and Lucas Auer.
The Nürburgring 24h is held on a 25km combined layout of the Nordschleife and the GP circuit. Up to 190 cars across multiple classes share the track at the same time, day and night, often through fog and rain. It is one of the toughest endurance races in the world, and a long-standing entry on Verstappen's bucket list.
He started the GT3 path last September. First a Porsche Cayman GT4 to earn his Nordschleife permit, then a four-hour NLS round a fortnight later in a Ferrari 296 GT3, which he won.
Verstappen has already been to Nordschleife twice this year with Mercedes-AMG GT3.
In March he won NLS2, although the team were later disqualified for a tyre allocation breach.
In April he was back for the 24h Qualifiers weekend, leading parts of the second race before a damaged front splitter ended his run.
