The 2026 Miami Grand Prix will start at 1:00 PM local time (EDT), three hours earlier than the original 4:00 PM schedule. The FIA, Formula 1 and the Miami Grand Prix promoter confirmed the change on Saturday night.
The reason is a forecast of heavy thunderstorms expected to arrive in the Miami area during the late afternoon, close to when the race was originally due to begin. Moving the start forward gives the best chance of completing the full race distance before the worst of the weather hits.
## What time does the 2026 Miami Grand Prix start in different time zones?
The new start time of 1:00 PM EDT converts to 6:00 PM BST, 7:00 PM CEST, and 8:00 PM EEST. For those on the US West Coast, that is 10:00 AM PDT.
## What happens if it still rains during the race?
Rain during the race remains possible even with the earlier start. If conditions are too severe, race control can suspend the session under a red flag until the weather passes. If the rain arrives as forecast, this would be the first time the 2026 cars have raced in genuinely wet conditions.
Kimi Antonelli starts from pole position for Mercedes, with Max Verstappen alongside on the front row for Red Bull.
